She was the widow of the late Vernon Pete Garner, and the daughter of the late Lula Blankenship and Joe Frank Dykes. She was a member of a highly regarded Russell County, KY, family. She was a native of Jamestown, KY, and a resident of Russell Springs, KY, at the time of her death in Somerset, KY. She leaves 11 direct living descendants.

Reba Garner, 86, of Russell Springs, KY passed away Thursday March 31, 2016, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, Somerset, KY.

Funeral services for Reba Garner will be Tuesday, April 5, 10amCT, at H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel, 202 N Main Street, Jamestown, KY with Bro. Billy Dunbar officiating. Friends may visit on Monday, April 4, 2016 after 5pmCT, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Dixon Cemetery, Jamestown, KY.

She was born in Jamestown, Russell County, KY, on July 1, 1929, a daughter of the late Lula (Blankenship) and Joe Frank Dykes. She died Thursday March 31, 2016, in Somerset, Pulaski County, KY, at the age of 86 years, nine months, and two days.

She is survived by:
  • One son: Jimmy Dale Garner, of Russell Springs, KY

  • A sister: Rena Walden-Kennedy, of Indianapolis, IN

  • A brother: James Dykes, of Jamestown, KY

  • Four grandchildren

  • Six great grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vernon Pete Garner; son Lilburn Ray Garner, four brothers, Arvis, Luther, Frank and Dee Dykes; and three sisters, Rittie Guffey, Ima John Short, and Margie Cape.
