Fabian Chirino named MSC Baseball Player of the Week

By Charlie Balcom

Lindsey Wilson senior Fabian Chirino has been named the Mid-South Conference Baseball Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.

The shortstop from Miami, Florida led the Blue Raider offense with a .438 batting average and 6 RBIs as Lindsey Wilson went 3-2 last week.

He went 7-for-16 at the plate and had one home run, while scoring four times in the five games.

Chirino hit his second home run of the season in a 9-5 victory over Middle Georgia State where he went 2-for-3 at the plate. He drove in three runs in the final game of a three-game series against Georgetown (Ky.) where he was 2-for-4 at the plate and scored twice.

Chirino earns his first player of the week honor this season and the first of his career. He joins teammates Jan Carlos Ortiz and Miguel Reyes as fellow weekly award recipients this year.

The Blue Raiders are 22-9 on the season.
