Work Ready Scholarship bill passes KY House

by Pen Waggener

HB626 would establish the Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship Program, to provide free Community College tuition statewide for Kentucky High School graduates and GED recipients.
"It is the intent of the General Assembly to establish the Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship Program to ensure all Kentucky students have affordable access to obtaining a postsecondary degree and Kentucky has a skilled, competitive workforce." HB626 (PDF)
In addition to other requirements, students would be required to complete the Federal Student Aid application, and the scholarship fund would pay the difference in tuition to KCTCS schools. The scholarship could renew for up to 6 semesters, provided the student maintains at least a 2.0 GPA.

The bill passed the House of Representatives on March 17, now heads to the State Senate.
