BJ Fudge sends explanation of rainbow touching ground

In answer to a question, Billy Joe Fudge writes:
Touching the ground in front of you means that the raindrops doing their work were very close to you. These kind of "up close and personal" rainbows always look lighter beneath the bow itself, also. I think it is because of reflection of light from the raindrops. Since the angle is not sufficient to cause the prism effect, there is still refection or mirror effect if you will. - BJF
