COLUMBIA, KY - The Lindsey Wilson baseball team split a doubleheader with Taylor (IN) on Friday evening, 4 Mar 2016, at Egnew Park.

The Trojans (7-5) captured the opener 7-3, while the seventh-ranked Blue Raiders (14-5) prevailed 7-2 in the nightcap in a pair of scheduled seven-inning contests.

GAME 1. LWC 3. Taylor 7.

A sloppy defensive performance and poor hitting in the late innings doomed Lindsey Wilson in the opening loss as the Blue Raiders committed five errors and managed just one hit in the final four innings of play.

Lindsey Wilson fell behind right out of the gate as Taylor plated two runs in the top of the first on an RBI double. The Blue Raiders should have got out of the inning unharmed but a fielding error kept the Trojans alive and they took advantage with the two unearned runs.

Taylor doubled their lead in the top of the third taking advantage of another Blue Raider error and using a bit of small ball with a bunt squeeze play to score another run.

Lindsey Wilson plated their only runs of the game in the bottom of the third using the long ball. Fabian Chirino hit a solo shot to start the inning and Aaron Ashton later hit a two-run bomb to make it 4-3.

But that was all the damage the Blue Raiders could do from the plate as Taylor's Logan Rodgers entered in relief in the bottom of the fourth and proceeded to pitch four scoreless innings allowing just one hit as he picked up his third win of the season.

Taylor tacked on three more runs in the fourth on a three-run shot by Nathan Targgart to make it 7-3, and the four-run lead would be plenty for Rodgers as he shut the Blue Raider bats down.

Aaron Doughty (2-2) took the loss allowing seven runs, four earned, on eight hits in his four innings of work. Larry Stewart pitched well in relief, allowing just two hits in his three innings.

GAME 2. LWC 7. Taylor 2

The Lindsey Wilson bats came alive early in the nightcap as the Blue Raiders pushed four runs across in the first three innings.

Miguel Reyes got the scoring started in the bottom of the first after a two-run RBI double made it 2-0. But Lindsey Wilson left runners stranded on second and third, a trend that would continue throughout the game, as the next three batters all struck out to end the inning.

Taylor cut the lead in half in the top of the second with an RBI double.

Lindsey Wilson scored once in the next two innings, scoring on an RBI single by Reyes in the second and on a passed ball in the third to push the lead to 4-1.

Taylor cut the lead back down to two runs after an RBI single scored one run. Lindsey Wilson had a chance to increase their lead in the bottom of the fourth, but a fly out with bases loaded ended the threat. The Blue Raiders would strand 10 total runners in the contest.

The game then went scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when the Blue Raiders added a three-run cushion to their lead to make it a 7-2 advantage. Another RBI single by Reyes, followed by a two-RBI double by Ray Gonzalez accounted for the scores.

James Doubet then entered in the seventh and closed out the contest, striking out two of the three batters he faced.

Scott Sebald (4-1) picked up the win tossing six-complete innings while allowing two earned runs on four hits with seven strikeouts.

Taylor's Jordan Crabb took the loss, allowing four earned runs on eight hits.

Reyes finished 3-for-3 with four RBIs in the nightcap. Jan Carlos Ortiz and Edgar Lebron each added two hits.
