Matt Walker named MSC W Division Wrestler of the Year By Charles Balcom News from Lindsey Wilson College MARIETTA, GA (Sun 21 Feb 2016) - After capturing an individual conference championship on Saturday, Lindsey Wilson's Matt Walker was selected the Mid-South Conference West Division Wrestler of the Year at this morning's conference banquet. The conference's individual awards were voted on by the MSC coaches. Walker was 4-0 during the regular season against MSC West competition. He won his four matches in four different ways -- via a pin, a technical fall, a major decision and a decision. Walker helped the Blue Raiders capture the West Division title with a 4-0 divisional record. On Saturday, Walker -- ranked No. 8 at 174 pounds in the NAIA -- captured the 174-pound conference title. He opened the tournament with an 18-2 tech fall victory over Zechariah Rives of Southeastern (FL). Next, Walker pinned Luke Moore of Cumberlands (KY) to advance to the semifinals. In the semifinals, Walker edged out Campbellsville's (KY) Justin Brown in a 3-2 decision. Walker won MSC crown with an 11-3 major decision over Cumberland's (Tenn.) Kyle Delaune -- ranked 14th in the NAIA. With his win, Walker earned first-team all-conference honors and a berth into next month's NAIA National Championship in Topeka, Kansas. St. Catharine's (KY) Anthony Ashford was selected as the West Division Freshman of the Year while Cumberland's James Hicks was voted as the Coach of the Year in the West.
