TJ Health Columbia holds ribbon cutting, info sharing event Today the formal changeover from Westlake to TJ Health Columbia was announced in a ribbon cutting ceremony at the hospital. The large dining room was packed with officials, health related industry leaders, friends and board members of both Westlake and of TJ Regional Health. By Linda Waggener Protecting local jobs was a main concern of many in attendance. TJ Regional Health President and CEO Bud Wethington said, "each and every employee of Westlake was interviewed and 70 of them are at work now in Columbia. Another 14 or so took positions at TJ Samson in Glasgow and a few who chose not to work in Glasgow were not hired. He pointed out that should the work and plans underway now to restore the Psych unit, another 15 to 20 jobs may come available in Columbia. He pointed out that the success of TJ Health Columbia will depend on the support of the community. The following news release provides background details and the commitment from the new owners. From Laura Belcher, Chief of Planning and Developent In October of 2015, officials from Adair County Public Hospital Corporation, Adair County Hospital District and T.J. Regional Health announced the intent of T.J. Regional Health in Glasgow, Kentucky to acquire Westlake Regional Hospital and its clinics. As of February 11, 2016, the acquisition was complete and Westlake Regional Hospital became T.J. Health Columbia. The community will now have improved access to new clinical, operational and financial resources that will strengthen the healthcare services. Since January 2011, leaders in Columbia and Adair County realized their community was in jeopardy of losing their hospital, the hub of medical care for their community. The hospital has been in flux since 2011 and continued to see debt escalate to unmanageable levels. Unfortunately, with limited options to keep their doors open, officials filed for Chapter 9 bankruptcy. T.J. Regional Health is committed to making capital investments in the future growth of T.J. Health Columbia and the clinics in Columbia, Edmonton and Russell Springs. “Our goal is to make this facility and the associated clinics thrive. We are currently exploring opportunities for T.J. Health Columbia. The immediate need is to focus on core services, improving facilities, and the most efficient use of resources,” stated Bud Wethington, President and CEO of T.J. Regional Health. According to T.J. officials, Neal Gold has agreed to stay during the transition period. According to Bud Wethington, “The acquisition is complete and we look forward to the opportunity to meet with community leaders and patients to help solidify future plans for T.J. Health Columbia. Leaders in the community were looking for a way to continue healthcare services in Adair County and surrounding communities, and T.J. chose to accept the challenge.” T.J. Regional Health was not involved in the bankruptcy settlement related to the taxing district and will not receive any monies from the Adair County Hospital District in this acquisition. T.J. Regional Health is the parent company of T.J. Samson Community Hospital and T.J. Health Partners which currently employs over 1,300 employees, including 50 primary care and specialty physicians and providers. T.J. Regional Health opened the T.J. Health Pavilion which houses an outpatient services center for T.J. Samson Community Hospital as well as T.J. Urgent Care, T.J. Pavilion Pharmacy and the T.J. Health Partners medical offices. All of the T.J. Regional Health facilities are awarded the Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval for healthcare quality and safety. This story was posted on 2016-02-18 14:50:27
