Laura Hurt: Reasons for voting for Legal Sales

' If it's your choice not to drink it, fine by me. But why should that mean that nobody else gets to drink alcohol either? I detest ginger, but you don't see me banning it from your kitchen! - LAURA HURT

Personal commentary

I write to you considering the wet/dry vote taking place March 22.

I am urging people to vote yes on this.

The facts are very clear:

- There are less alcohol related accidents.. That makes sense, because people have to drive a long way to have a drink now, so they are using the occasion to drink all that they can get. If they can get it at home, they won't do that.

- There is a clear relationship between having a dry county and having a big amount of meth-users. Wouldn't it be great if we would turn that around?

- There will be more money coming in for the county, there will be more jobs, there will be more companies willing to settle in Columbia and that will make more jobs too. Wouldn't it be great if we could finally be able to choose between good jobs here, instead of having to choose a meagre job here at the MacDonald or the Walmart, or an only slightly better paid job 20 miles up the road? Wouldn't it be great if our children wouldn't have to move to Louisville or Lexington for a better job, or even go out of state altogether?

- And in my eyes, the most important argument is the one of freedom of choice. It should be everyone's personal choice to drink alcohol or not. If it's your choice not to drink it, fine by me. But why should that mean that nobody else gets to drink alcohol either? I detest ginger, but you don't see me banning it from your kitchen!

Regards, Laura Hurt
