3D art projects underway in Jo Ann Harris's classes

By Calen McKinney, Public Information Officer/Grant Writer
Campbellsville Independent Schools (CIS), Campbellsville, KY

Campbellsville High School students are making progress on their 3D art projects. Students in Jo Ann Harris's classes recently watched an episode of "Face Off," a reality television show that features a competition between special effects makeup artists.

While watching the show, students learned about making special effects, but also about art careers.

To put their new skills to the test, students then discussed Alice in Wonderland, which they study in their literature classes. After choosing a character from Alice in Wonderland, students went to work making their own 3D sculptures.

The first step of the process is covering balloons with paper mache. After their balloons dry, students will continue to shape their sculptures and eventually paint them to look like their characters.

The goal, Harris said, is for those who see the finished sculptures to not know they started out as balloons.

The project will take about two weeks to complete.

This week, students are working to shape their sculptures. Next week, students will paint their sculptures and add finishing touches.
