Triple overtime game results in 56-55 victory for CMS

Campbellsville Independent Schools (CIS), Campbellsville, KY

Campbellsville Middle School eighth-grade boys' basketball team defeated Taylor County in triple overtime on Monday, Feb. 1, to win the Central Kentucky Middle School Athletic Conference championship. Final score was 56-55.

CMS eighth-grader Malachi Corley sunk a three-pointer with one second left on the clock to win the game. Corley had 17 points on the night.



Eighth-grader Brennon Wheeler had 11 points and seventh-grader Arren Hash had 10. The eighth-grade team finished the regular season as co-champs with Taylor County.

In the seventh-grade championship game, CMS lost to Taylor County by a point. Final score was 41-40. Seventh-graders John Orberson and Kameron Smith had 14 points each.

CMS boys' basketball teams were recognized during a pep rally on Tuesday, Feb. 2.

In addition to CMS, teams participating in the CKMSAC include Green, Russell, Hart, Casey, Adair, Metcalfe and Taylor counties.

The CMS sixth-grade team is the second-place winner in its CKMSAC tournament, which was Saturday, Jan. 16, in Casey County.

Lynn Kearney coaches the sixth- and seventh-grade teams and Joseph "Bugg" Taylor is eighth-grade head coach.

The CMS boys' basketball team will participate in the Kentucky Basketball Academy eighth-grade middle school state tournament on Feb. 12-14.
