CHS students named state Beta champs

Campbellsville High School Beta Club has repeated as state champions at this year's annual state convention.

CHS students attended the convention, which was at the Galt House in Louisville, on January 25-27, 2016 and competed against numerous schools from around Kentucky.<


BR> Seven CHS students won awards at the convention and will advance to the national Beta convention this summer.

CHS juniors Blair Lamb, Laura Lamb and Murphy Lamb won first place in the special talent category by performing "Lost in the Brass" from the musical "Band Geeks." Blair sang during the performance, while Murphy played piano and Laura played drums.

Last year, Blair won the individual talent competition.

CHS sophomore Bryce Richardson received second place in the poetry contest. Belen Garcia, a senior, received third place in the Spanish category.

CHS junior Yena Shin came in third in the on-site pencil drawing competition. And CHS sophomore Ryan Wiedewitsch took home third place in the English category.

The CHS Beta Club also received a GOLD key award, which stands for Growing Opportunities by Leadership Development. To receive the award, a club must have at least 10 percent growth in convention attendance.

The national Beta convention will be in June in New Orleans, LA.

Forty-three CHS students attended the Beta convention and each competed. CHS Media Specialist Valerie Davis and teacher Zach Shelton co-sponsor the Beta Club.
