Travel, KYTC District 3: Heavy snowfall, underlying ice problems Snow plows will have a hard time battling the ice layer, but salting operations should help. Motorists still need to avoid unnecessary travel as the roadways are still very treacherous. District 3 Road Conditions 5 am Update (Serving Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson, Todd, Warren Counties) By Wes Watt, Public Information Officer Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, District 3, Bowling Green, KY BOWLING GREEN, KY (5:16amCT, Sat 23 Jan 2016) -- For the second straight day Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 3 road crews worked through the night to clear roads following a harsh winter storm leaving most of the District covered in nearly double digit snowfall. Crews are mainly focused on priority A routes, which include roads like Interstate 65, Natcher Parkway and US routes. Even after being worked on throughout the day yesterday and all last night, those roads are still very hazardous. A lot of snow has been removed from the roadways, but a layer of ice remains. Snow plows will have a hard time battling the ice layer, but salting operations should help. Motorists still need to avoid unnecessary travel as the roadways are still very treacherous. It will still be a while before crews can get to Priority B and C routes. Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing today with very little sunshine. But Sunday looks like it could be a very helpful day in melting the snow & ice on the roadway. There are some great KYTC resources and tools available to keep folks informed about road conditions. The District 3 Facebook and Twitter account will be updated regularly with the most up-to-date information. The links to some resources are listed below. KYTC Safe Patrol
