Counties of service include: Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Lincoln, McCreary, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Russell, and Wayne counties. Click on headline for complete report By Amber Hale, Public Information Officer KY Transportation Cabinet, District 8, Somerset, KY SOMERSET, KY (5:21amCT, 23 Jan 2016) - District 8 crews continue fighting hazardous road conditions this morning after a fierce winter storm dropped double digit snowfall along with ice throughout the entire district on Friday. The Snow and Ice response team has been working around the clock in shifts and will continue to do so until the roads are clear. Because of the intense snowfall throughout the day Friday, crews had to stick with plowing only priority A routes. Those routes still have very hazardous driving conditions on them and it is still being advised for folks who do not absolutely have to be on the roadways to avoid doing so. Now that snowfall has tapered off this will allow plows to be able to work better. Our men and women are working as hard as they can as fast as they can to get the roads clear please be patient. Priority A routes are still the focus, so those who live on priority B and C routes could have to wait a while before seeing snowplows in their area. Due to the conditions on I 75 in Rockcastle County, KYTC has focused our efforts on clearing the interstate and routes leading from the interstate as emergency personnel continue to divert motorist off of I 75. Interstate 75 became blocked early on Friday after several minor crashes and jackknifed trucks occurred. Amber Hale Information Officer District 8 - Somerset, KY Click here for website.
