Kentucky Joint Information Center Activated

Residents are encouraged to stay home and stay off roads to allow emergency vehicles and snow and ice management crews room to operate

Frankfort, KY - Kentucky's Joint Information Center (JIC) was activated at 8:41 a.m. to support the Kentucky Emergency Operations Center (EOC), which has also been activated to respond to a winter storm affecting much of the Commonwealth.

Kentucky Emergency Management officials continue to monitor the situation and coordinate state assistance as needed. As of 10 a.m. the state hasn't received any requests for assistance.

Governor Matt Bevin's Communications Director Jessica Ditto, Kentucky Emergency Management Public Information Officer Buddy Rogers, and public information officers from other state agencies are staffing the JIC and are coordinating distribution of information to the public and media.

The EOC is monitoring weather reports and has received reports of snow and ice accumulation from across the state. Motorists are encouraged to stay home and stay off the roads to allow snow and ice removal crews and emergency vehicles room to operate.

Residents are also encouraged to check on their neighbors especially those who are elderly or have special needs.

All media inquiries regarding the state response should be directed to (502)-607-6666.

All public inquiries regarding the state response should be directed to (502) 607-6665.

If you have an emergency please call 911.

State officials are also monitoring social media and will use #kywx to distribute updates.
