Allen-Jordan helps No. 21 CU beat Cumberlands By Jordan Alves, CU sports information director Campbellsville, KY - It wasn't the way coach Keith Adkins drew it up, but his Tigers came back from a 23-point first-half deficit and rallied past the University of the Cumberlands, 76-75. The win extends Campbellsville's NAIA-leading home win streak to 27 games and a season-high nine game win streak overall. Dii'jon Allen-Jordan led the Tigers by scoring a new career-high 30 points and registering his NAIA-leading ninth double-double with 11 rebounds. Cumberlands (12-6, 3-2 MSC) picked up its largest lead of 23 points, 37-14, with 7:07 remaining in the first half but for the second game in a row, Campbellsville (16-4, 3-3 MSC) cut the first half deficit to a manageable margin. The Tigers went on a 16-6 run going into the locker room down 43-31. During that span, Campbellsville held the Patriots in check, allowing them to hit only 3-of-8 shots and forcing four turnovers - three of those coming via offensive charges. The Patriots also missed two free throws in that Tiger run. Campbellsville, on the other hand, went 6-of-13, which was capped by Elliott Young's bucket in the paint with time expiring. The biggest stat, though, only one turnover. The Tigers finished with only 10 turnovers overall - their second lowest total of the season. In the second stanza, the Tigers blistered the nets by hitting 52 percent (13-of-25) from the floor, while Cumberlands went cold hitting 29 percent (9-of-21). CU came out roaring with a 10-3 run to start the half. Allen-Jordan scored six points and Sekou Harris scored four of his 20 points to cut the Patriots' lead to single digits, 46-41 with 15:46 left. But Cumberlands would eventually push that lead to double figures three more times in the next five minutes. Trailing 62-51 with 11:13 left, Ron Scott, the third major contributor for Campbellsville, drained his lone 3-pointer of the night and started a 13-0 run. Allen-Jordan (30), Harris (20) and Scott (15) accounted for 85.5 percent of Campbellsville's points. Hagen Tyler, the nations leading 3-point shooter with 72 made triples, hit only one 3 tonight but it came at a crucial moment. Tyler scored five-straight points by drilling a 3 and knocking down two free throws to knot the game at 62 - the first tie since the score was 0-0. The final nine minutes was a classic Mid-South Conference thriller. Taylor Gover hit two free throws to tie the game once more at 64, but Allen-Jordan put Campbellsville ahead for good with a layup at the 7:56 mark. Harris ended up fouling out with 4:05 remaining but coach Keith Adkins turned to Scott for leadership and the senior picked up the slack. He scored his final bucket with 3:15 left to push Campbellsville out by its largest margin, 76-71 - which ended up being the final points the Tigers would score. The Tigers went 0-for-4 from the floor and missed two free throws in the final 3:15 to give Cumberlands a chance late. D'Lando Carter scored four-straight points to bring the Patriots back within one, 76-75, but came up one point shy. His floater with time expiring fell short to secure the Campbellsville win. Carter led Cumberlands with 14 points, while Gover finished with 13 and Xavier Owens finished with 11. It is the second consecutive regular season win over Cumberlands that has come down to the last shot. Owens missed a jumper last season in Powell Athletic Center with time expiring to seal the Tigers' triumph. Six of the last seven games between Campbellsville and Cumberlands have been less than an eight-point margin. Campbellsville returns home on Saturday to host No. 1 University of Pikeville.
