Dear CM readers,

Our school district continues to improve in a multitude of ways. Some of the improvements are highly visible while others are not. We are proud of our strong academic gains, addition of over 30 career pathways, construction of the satellite campus through the area technology center, partnerships with area colleges and universities to allow ACHS students to take college courses thus saving parents thousands of dollars, major re-build of our technology infrastructure, zero high school dropouts, free breakfast and lunch for all students, mini-clinics in each school through a forged partnership with Cumberland Valley Medical, winning sports programs and band, and the highly visible campus-wide improvements to our buildings and grounds. This is only a partial list.

There is so much left to do, including growing our partnership with KCTCS and Somerset Community College to increase the number of highly sought after trained individuals (adults and high school students alike) that will equip Adair County citizens for high paying jobs close to Columbia and stopping our "brain drain".

Our school district will forever be a work in progress. Our board members and I feel that without community input we cannot achieve the continuous improvement model we all desire.

I am personally reaching out to each of you to invite comments and suggestions regarding our school district. I realize when one asks for comments they will not all be positive, but that is okay. Again, we are a "continuous progress" model.

Please email me your thoughts about things you want us to work harder on. Feel free to suggest a novel idea that we may not have thought about. We don't profess to be perfect for get everything right, but we certainly try. Mainly, we just need to hear from you. You can write me at Adair County Board of Education at 1204 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY. The easiest way to reach me is through email address at: alan.reed@adair.kyschools.us In closing, I want to thank all Adair countians for noticing the improvements in Adair County Schools, and for taking the time to play an active role in making our school district even better.

Sincerely,

Alan W. Reed, Superintendent
Adair County Schools, 1204 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY 42728
