Campbellsville HS students score high marks on PSAT exam All 17 students meet reading/writing benchmark, and 14 of 17 meet benchmark for the math portion. Two students may have scored high enough to make the initial cut for the National Merit Scholarship program Click on headline for complete story By Calen McKinney, Public Information officer Campbellsville Independent School District Campbellsville High School students have scored very high marks on the PSAT exam. Seven sophomores and 10 juniors took the test the week after fall break. Scores were recently released. According to CHS Guidance Counselor Richard Dooley, all 17 students met the benchmark on the reading/writing portion of the exam and 14 met the benchmark on the math portion. The CHS student who scored the highest on the reading/writing and math sections of the exam received a 760 on each portion, for a combined 1520. The next highest scores were 710 and 700 on the reading/writing section, and a 710 on the math portion of the test. Three students scored more than 1300 on the test, and three others score more than 1200. Six students scored in the 90th or higher percentile. Two scores fell in the 82nd to 89th percentile, three were in the 77th to 79th percentiles, and two scored in the mid to upper 60s percentiles. According to Dooley, based upon score projections from someone at Harvard for the state of Kentucky, it appears CHS might have at least two juniors who will make the initial cut for the National Merit Scholarship program. Dooley said sophomores aren't eligible for the National Merit program, but there are three CHS students who scored in the 89th percentile, or higher, and that will give them a great shot at making the cut next year. One student, he said, is already scoring above the projected National Merit threshold score for this year. For more information, contact Dooley at 270-465-8774.
