Host parents for international students get chance to show off area . . . . . . and learn more about attractions in South Central Kentucky, as Maggie Coleman has learned being able to introduce international students to Mammoth Cave Click on headline for complete story By Maggie Coleman As the semester begins soon at Lindsey and more international students will be arriving on campus, I wanted to share a brief glimpse into the many blessings my family receives from acting as host parents to international students at Lindsey. We visited Mammoth Cave in December with Karin Yamamura from Japan, Yoon Jae Song and Hoyjin Shin from South Korea, and Caue Salgado from Brazil. All had a few days before they headed off campus so we all hopped in the car to see the cave. One of the best advantages we have had in hosting international students is the chance to show them our area. We have learned a lot about Kentucky in the process! Mammoth Cave is always a location we choose because A) It is awesome and close. B) We can go no matter the weather. C) There are many different tours to take, so we always end up learning something new! I would encourage all host parents to take their students with them when they see sights in our area. Seeing it through the eyes of someone who has never experienced your local culture before gives you a fresh appreciation and perspective on our area! When we recently visited the cave, I got to enjoy watching our students be both fascinated and terrified by local cave crickets. Quite amusing!
