Employment up in 6 local counties in November 2015 Frankfort, KY - Unemployment rates fell year-over-year in November in 6 of 7 local counties--Adair, Casey, Green, Metcalfe, Russell and Taylor--and remained unchanged in Cumberland County, according to the Kentucky Career Center. Russell County, which has struggled with higher than average unemployment recently, had the most substantial change, from 11.4% in November 2014 all the way to 8.2% in November 2015.
Unemployment rates fell in 92 Kentucky counties between November 2014 and November 2015, rose in 23 counties and remained the same in five, according to the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training, an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. Woodford County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the Commonwealth at 3.2 percent. It was followed by Fayette, Oldham and Spencer counties, 3.6 percent each; Shelby County, 3.7 percent; Boone, Campbell, Madison and Scott counties, 3.9 percent each; and Anderson, Bullitt, Jessamine, Warren and Washington counties, 4 percent each. Magoffin County recorded the state's highest unemployment rate at 12.6 percent. It was followed by Letcher County, 10.2 percent; Harlan County, 10.1 percent; Owsley County, 9.9 percent; Wolfe County, 9.7 percent; Elliott County, 9.5 percent; Leslie County, 9.4 percent; Clay County, 9.3 percent; Knott County, 9.2 percent, and Pike County, 9.1 percent. Note: Unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled to measure trends rather than actually to count people working. Civilian labor force statistics include non-military workers and unemployed Kentuckians who are actively seeking work. They do not include unemployed Kentuckians who have not looked for employment within the past four weeks. The statistics in this news release are not seasonally adjusted because of the small sample size for each county. The data should only be compared to the same month in previous years.
