ORANGE BEACH, AL - (Fri 4 Dec 2015) Top-seeded Lindsey Wilson women's soccer clinched their spot in the NAIA National Championship game today with a 3-1 semifinal-win over fourth-seeded Benedictine (Kan.) at the Orange Beach Sportsplex.

The Blue Raiders (20-1-2) advance to Saturday's championship match against sixth-seeded Spring Arbor (MI), who defeated No. 2 seed Northwestern Ohio 1-0 in the other semifinal.

Shelby Austin, Lyana Perez and Mikaela Brewitz all tallied a goal to send Lindsey Wilson to the program's sixth title match. The Blue Raiders are 4-1 in the previous five, including winning a season ago here in Orange Beach.

Both teams struggled to find scoring chances in the early stages of the match. Through the first 20 minutes of play, Lindsey Wilson and Benedictine (22-2-1) had combined for just three shots.

Austin came on as a substitute in the 34th minute, and made a quick impact on the game scoring her first goal of the season to give the Blue Raiders a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute.

Austin took advantage of a failed clearance by the Ravens at top of the 18-yard box. The ball fell to her feet, where she found herself one-on-one with the Benedictine goalkeeper Ellen Loughman.

Austin slid the ball to the lower right corner of the net, beating a charging Loughman for the first tally of the game.

In the final five minutes of the first half, the Ravens mounted pressure on the Lindsey Wilson back line. Ashley Chandler shot the ball wide in the 40th minute and Rosie McShane forced Lindsey Wilson goalkeeper Johanna Henriksson to make a save in the 45th minute to keep the Blue Raiders ahead 1-0 at the break.

Lindsey Wilson extended its lead to 2-0 early in the second half.

Perez notched her 19th goal of the season in what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the 49th minute.

Fabienne Rochaix sent a free kick to the far post where Perez was streaking towards the goal. She was able to put the left-footed volley just underneath the cross bar and into the back of the net to double the Lindsey Wilson lead.

The Blue Raiders continued to put offensive pressure on Benedictine as Ivana Damnjanovic just missed a chance to put Lindsey Wilson up by three goals. Her strike, one of eight Blue Raider shots in the contest, went just over the crossbar.

Benedictine tried to flip the momentum in its favor with offensive barrage that resulted in eight shots over a 20-minute span. The Ravens ended with 16 shots in the match, including seven on target.

Henriksson and the Lindsey Wilson defense continued its stingy play, turning away Benedictine shots in the 76th and 78th minutes. Henriksson ended the match collecting a season-high six saves.

After a Benedictine corner kick, Lindsey Wilson cleared the ball out of the penalty area, allowing Yvonne Ploeg, who re-entered game in the 75th minute, to start the counter attack for the Blue Raiders.

Ploeg found herself with some space to run and after a trio of Raven defenders surrounded her, she dished the ball between the legs of one defender and connected with Brewitz on her left side.

Brewitz, who raced up the field from her backline position, took two touches before she struck the ball with the outside of her foot to put the shot just over the hands of the Loughman from seven yards away to give the Blue Raiders a 3-0 lead in the 79th minute. Just like Austin, the Brewitz goal was her first of the season on just her fourth shot of the year.

Benedictine did not give up in the final 10 minutes.

The Ravens finally spoiled Henriksson's clean sheet, as McShane scored in the 87th minute with a shot just under the crossbar to cut the deficit to 3-1.

That would be all Henriksson and the Blue Raiders would surrender in the 3-1 victory.
