Caregivers met in Adair today on subject of nursing home

by Linda Waggener

Lana Roy, social services and discharge planner, from Summit Manor Nursing Home, was guest speaker at the December meeting of the Adair County Caregiver Support Group today.

From her long term experience, she was able to share what can be expected when a family needs to think of nursing home residency.

Questions that came up in the discussion included how to manage and help family members who wander, what to do for those who have allowed a commercial insurance to take over their Medicare without their awareness, how to know what to do to prepare for a nursing home stay, etc.

She invited everyone to stop by at any time for a tour or for information. The number is 270-384-2153.

Summit Manor is under new ownership, Signature corporation, a nursing home company with 160 facilities in several states.

The next meeting of the Adair County Caregiver Support Group will be held January 6, 2016 at 11amCT at the UK Extension Office, 409 Fairgrounds Road, Columbia, KY. The topic will be adult day care opportunities available.
