Westmont 2 No. 1 Lindsey Wilson Women's Soccer outlasts No. 8 Westmont 4-2 in national quarterfinals, before a crowd of 99 NEXT: LWC vs. The Benedictine, in semifinals of the NAIA National Women's Soccer Championship at 12pmNoonCT on Friday, December 4, at the Orange Beach Sportsplex, 4389 Pub Works Road, Orange Beach, AL By Charles Balcom ORANGE BEACH, AL (Wed 02 Dec 2015) - Top-seeded Lindsey Wilson women's soccer avenged its only loss of the season today with a 4-2 win over No. 8-seed Westmont (CA) in the quarterfinals of the 2015 NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship at the Orange Beach Sportsplex. The Blue Raiders (19-1-2) advance to Friday's semifinals against fourth-seeded Benedictine (KS) -- who defeated fifth-seeded Mobile (AL) 2-1 in double overtime. Lindsey Wilson's Yvonne Ploeg scored twice in a three-goal second half to propel the Blue Raiders to their 10th consecutive win. Lyana Perez and Amanda Kander added goals to send Lindsey Wilson to the program's ninth national semifinal, including its fourth straight. Perez opened the game's scoring in the 19th minute with a terrific individual effort. Kander began the scoring play with a through ball just inside the penalty area. Perez outmuscled a Westmont defender and managed to keep the ball from Westmont goalkeeper Lauren Dorr who was charging off her line. Perez played the ball away from the traffic to the right corner of the 18-yard box, spinning to send her shot towards the goal. The ball sailed over a Warrior defender and past Dorr -- who was scurrying back to the goal line -- into the net for the 1-0 lead. The goal is Perez's 18th of the season and third of the national tournament. She scored twice in Monday's 5-0 win over Kansas Wesleyan. Lindsey Wilson looked to take the 1-0 lead into the break, but a costly handball just outside the penalty area gave the Warriors (16-4-2) an opportunity for an equalizer with just 17 seconds left in the half. Brooke Lillywhite made the most of the chance by lofting a shot over the Lindsey Wilson wall. Lindsey Wilson goalkeeper Johanna Henriksson managed to get her hands on the shot, but it ricocheted up into the bottom of the crossbar and down into the goal to tie the game 1-1. The goal ended Henriksson's scoreless streak at just 655 minutes and 38 seconds. She had not allowed a goal since October 24. Both teams closed the first 45 minutes with five shots, with each putting two shots on target. Westmont brought its late-goal momentum into the early stages of the second half. Kelsey Steck -- the Warriors leading scorer on the season with 23 goals this season -- missed an opportunity to put Westmont up for the first time in the match in the 47th minute. Steck scored a goal in the first meeting this season between the two clubs -- a 3-0 Westmont win in Santa Barbara, California, in mid-October. Kaitlynn Swift crossed a ball deep into the penalty area and Steck one-timed her shot over the goal from just eight yards out. It did not take long for the Blue Raiders to take advantage of the miss. Kander nudged the Blue Raiders back in front in the 49th minute on a counter that resulted in a one-on-one with Dorr. Isobel Dalton skirted the ball past the Westmont back line and into open space just over the midfield line. Kander ran onto the ball, dribbled some 25 yards and beat Dorr with a clinical finish to the lower right side of the goal for a 2-1 lead. The goal is Kander's 12th of the season. Westmont once again responded with another goal off of a set piece. Angela Brown placed her corner kick perfectly just outside the six-yard box in the 64th minute. Henriksson managed to redirect the ball, but unluckily to Hailey Parker who slotted the ball into the empty net to tie the match at 2-2. From there, Lindsey Wilson seized control of the match and this time would not relinquish the lead. Ploeg scored twice in an 11-minute span to send the Blue Raiders to their eighth straight national tournament win -- matching a program record set during the 2012 and 2013 seasons. Like Westmont's two goals, Lindsey Wilson took advantage of a set piece. Following a Warrior foul on Hanna Jonsson, Ploeg buried a free kick from 20 yards straight-away into the right side of the goal in the 67th minute. She lifted the ball over an eight-person wall and by the diving Dorr for her 23rd goal of the season. Eleven minutes later, Ploeg added her 24th goal of the season. Again, a Warrior foul set up Ploeg with a free kick. From just one yard farther than her first free kick, Ploeg sent the ball high, only to have the Westmont wall reject the shot. Ploeg calmly settled the rebound and blasted the ball into the upper right of the goal to give Lindsey Wilson a two-goal cushion. The goal ties Ploeg with Kristen Pedersen for sixth on the Blue Raiders' all-time single-season goals scored list. Westmont managed two shots in the waning stages of the contest. The best of the final chances came off a free kick from 35 yards in the 85th minute. Lillywhite's effort hit the top of the crossbar and caromed harmlessly away, preserving the 4-2 Lindsey Wilson lead. The Blue Raiders closed the match outshooting the Warriors 13-12, including 7-4 in shots on goal. Henriksson collected one save in the match in a winning effort.
