CU senior quarterback Jacob Russell is MSC player of the year Sensational player has re-written record books nine times this year. Click on headline for story w/photo(s) By Jordan Alves, CU Sports Information Director CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - For the first time in program history, a Campbellsville University student-athlete has been named the Mid-South Conference West Division Offensive Player of the Year. That honor goes to senior quarterback Jacob Russell, who has shattered every program record to date this season. Russell has led Campbellsville to two-straight MSC West Division championships and NAIA Football Championship Series appearances. He has thrown for 3,537 yards this season and averaged 352.7 yards per game – which ranks No. 1 in the NAIA. Throughout the season, Russell has re-wrote the record books nine times with his best game ever as a Tiger in the regular season finale against No. 7 Reinhardt on Senior Day. He threw for 446 yards and rushed for 26 more to reach a career-high 472 total yards. He also launched a career-high seven touchdown passes in the victory. He is on pace to shatter his own single-season and career passing yards per game average which was set last season at 274. Russell was named NAIA Player of the Week twice this season and has gained the honor three times in his career. He was also voted on as the MSC Player of the Week four times this season and eight times in his career. This story was posted on 2015-11-20 06:43:04
