By Randy Burns

I wanted to take just a second as the dust is settling from an incredible week at Lindsey Wilson. As some, but I'm sure not all, of your readers may know I work at LWC as the Director of Alumni Relations. In that role I have the pleasure to coordinate alumni engagement/involvement activities in the life of the College. I really enjoy the opportunity to interact with so many of our alumni through these efforts. The relationships that I've been able to build throughout this opportunity have unquestionably made my life more fulfiling and I will always treasure them.

In addition to those responsibilities, however, I am also a fundraiser for Lindsey Wilson College. More so than just that, I am UNASHAMEDLY a fundraiser for Lindsey Wilson College. I enjoy the event planning, but what stokes my fire...what ignites my passion....what makes me look forward to my work day, is fundraising for Lindsey Wilson College.

You see, Ed, I was one of the thousands of kids who came to LWC with the help of scholarship support. Without it, I dare say I would not have gone, nor graduated from college, because I don't know that I would have believed it was in the rhelm of possibility. But with the assistance of LWC supporters like Dr. J.M. Stephenson from Burkesville, it happened. Because of this, as I've gotten older, I've come to really appreciate and value those who are willing to take of their blessings to be a blessing to others. I now Lindsey Wilson is not the only worthy non-profit and I want to applaud anyone for supporting a charity they believe in regardless of what it is, but I want to say "I believe in the work that is done at Lindsey Wilson!" I've heard the stories from those who were here years, maybe even decades ago, and I see the same care and compassion being lived out by faculty and staff in the lives of our students today.

It's because of this work that say that I am unashamedly a fundraiser and that I am so incredibly proud of the accomplishment of the Lindsey Wilson Family this week to not only meet, but far exceed, Chairman Allan Parnell's challenge to LWC. To see and hear the excitement of our faculty and staff, alumni, friends, and even our current students as we worked toward this goal was inspirational. As a fundraiser, I don't see my job as ever trying to talk someone into doing something they don't want to do, but simply to hopefully inspire them to make an investment in a place they already believe in.....a place that has been such a positive part of so many lives and I am convinced with be a part of future Blue Raiders lives for generations to come! I'm am more convinced of this than ever because this week I saw hundreds of people step up over a two day period and say "I believe in Lindsey Wilson, too". To all of those people and to all of the others who maybe were not a part of this campaign but also stand with us, thank you for believing....thank you for investing...and most importly, as I always say, whether you are a student, an alum, an employee, or a friend...thanks for being a Blue Raider!

God bless,
- Randy Burns '93
