Harris: I'm alright and Adam is where he needs to be for now

A public prayer service is scheduled in Columbia for families dealing with addiction.
By Linda Waggener

Mike Harris called to say that he is home from the hospital, he is alright and that his son is where he needs to be for now. He said he and his wife Laura have nothing but love and forgiveness for Adam who is "one of the most compassionate people we know" in the absence of drug addiction.

The family had been dealing with the addiction privately until Saturday when Adam's actions took a violent turn and resulted in injuries to, and hospitalization of, his dad. Mike said his son's behavior appeared similar to persons observed when under the influence of a drug that has been mixed with foreign substances.

Mike described the outpouring of prayer support since Adam was put in jail as awe inspiring. He said so many have reached out and shared that they are going through similar situations -- so many families are affected by addiction. He also said that some will judge, but that until a parent lives through it, there is no way to know the isolation and hurt.

Mike referred to Laura's page on Facebook. Prior to the weekend ordeal, Laura had felt called in her ministry to gather families of addicted children for prayers. She posted the message, "A couple of weeks ago in prayer the Lord gave me an idea for a new ministry: PRAYING PARENTS OF ADDICTED KIDS, P-PAK. I was trying to figure out to implement it without bringing too much attention to our family - No need to worry about that now! No one knows what families go through in these situations."

The P-PAK prayer service is scheduled for October 20, 2015 at 7pmCT at the Revival Center, 24 Burnett Road, Columbia, KY. The location is near Walmart on the old Burkesville Road. They "welcome everyone to the service who is praying for anyone with any kind of addition."
