Columbia City Hall: Ready for Downtown Days, Council meeting

2015-10-04 - City Hall, 116 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
Fall Decorations, complete with (Off the) Square Crow are in place for Downtown Days. Though they are not part of the ordained theme for the fall festival, mums appear to be the favorite voluntary theme for the occasion, which kicks of Friday evening, October 9, 2015, followed by a huge day of events of Saturday, October 10, 2015, and for tomorrow's regular meeting of Columbia City Council, Mayor Curtis Hardwick presiding, at 6pmCT, Monday, October 5, 2015. - EW Clicking read more accesses Agenda for the meeting

2015-10-05 - Fountain Plaza, Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Ellen Zornes, Columbia/Adair Co. Chamber of Commerce.
Durham & Zornes Squarecrow. - The Squarecrow theme for Downtown Days has hit the community with hyper zeal. Some can't wait. One posed here on a comfortable Fountain Plaza bench, enjoying the CAVU weather. The Square Crow is on the right, above; the other figure is one of Columbia's leading Baptist lawyers, H. Hunter Durham. Behind him is Lynn McLean who is a regular downtown checking on the Bank of Columbia and seeing that his son-in-law's insurance agency, RBI, is running right.

Square Crow in likeness of ACCV circulation director - #1

2015-10-06 - 300 Quadrant Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
At first guess, anyone in furthest reaches of Adair County would say "Billy Neat," for the man who delivers the papers every Wednesday to sales points throughout the county, for this Square Crow. And they would be right. His name is "Billy," Mindy Yarberry, right of the Adair County Community Voice said yesterday, Monday, October 5, 2015, when this photo was taken. The Voice office is just a couple of storefronts away on the Well Walk off the Square. The imagination which has gone into the over three dozen Square Crows has been the talk of the town since they were put up Monday morning. - EW

Delightful Squarecrow entry: Dollhouse Day Care - #24

2015-10-06 - Front lawn, Historic Adair County Courthouse, 500 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
Dollhouse Daycare artists created this delightful scene on the Historic Courthouse lawn eleven or so figures. (For literal countarians, at least one figure is out of frame, but we need your help to get the crowd estimate above a precise number for history's sake.) Don't want to venture where the display will come in in the People's Choice awards, but CM will go on record betting that it will be a real kid-pleaser.

Squarecrow: High level of detail seen on second look

2015-10-15 - Entrance Corner, Jamestown Street & Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
A second look is often needed to realize the extraordinary detail and artistic skills in the Squarecrows which will be on display at least through Halloween and Treats on the Town, Saturday, October 31, 2015. It isn't totally evident on a quick pass, but Pam Spires Squarecrow includes a screen window frame and the art was painstakingly painted on that difficult "canvas." A study of the first Squarecrows, their nuances, the subtle humor, the clever details and the realization of the skill set needed to produce the art make the remarkable displays all the more worthy of second looks. - EW
