Adair segment of Heartland Pkwy awarded to Gaddie Shamrock 'Great news for Columbia and Adair County. It's the edge we need to get more and better jobs in Adair County.' - JUDGE MICHAEL STEPHENS Click on headline for complete story. More will be carried on the story of the Heartland Parkway later; today, the big story is it is becoming a reality ColumbiaMagazine.com (c) story Adair County Judge Michael Stephens, in response to a request for the status of the awarding of the contract for the first segment of the Heartland Parkway, confirmed that the bid Gaddie-Shamrock of Columbia, KY's bid had been awarded today. Judge Stephens said that it is his understanding that work on the project will begin shortly after the first of the year, in 2016. "This is great news for Adair County and the region," Judge Stephens said. "It's the edge we need to get better jobs into the region. Junior Stotts, a friend of the Beshear Administration agreed. This project has been talked about for 15 years," he said. "Now," he said "it's is a reality. It has now underway. It's just a beginning. This will open up the region for manufacturing in a big way. And it's impact on tourism, especially around Green River Lake, could be huge." "Of course we're elated that the first section will be built here," Judge Stephens said. "But," he said, "we are just as anxious for contracts to be let in Taylor, Marion, and Washington Counties, as well. That part of the Parkway will be crucial to our Adair County's plans." he said. "Think about it, the Campbellsville southern bypass, will benefit Adair County as much as it will Taylor. We're acting regionally now. County lines are no longer issues." "The Bluegrass Parkway is the culmination of years of work by people of vision. It will fulfill lifetime dreams for many. I firmly believe that it will be the catalyst for economic development in Adair County the likes of which we've never seen before." This story was posted on 2015-10-02 20:10:59
