Lindsey Wilson College's Homecoming 2015

Eight honored, royalty crowned, and signs dedicated Lindsey Wilson Colleges 84th Homecoming weekend

COLUMBIA, KY - Five alumni and three longtime friends of the college were honored at Lindsey Wilson College's 84th homecoming weekend, on September 18-19, 2015.

The weekend also included two academic ceremonies, a reunion of the college's soccer alumni and the dedication of two new campus signs. Thanks to money raised by members of the Classes of 1965 and 2015, the college's plant workers built a pair of campus signs over the summer on two edges of the campus. The signs were dedicated on Friday afternoon.



At the Alumni Awards & Athletic Hall of Fame Celebration on Saturday morning, three alumni were inducted into the LWC Athletic Hall of Fame and five individuals were honored by the LWC National Alumni Association.

The three new members inducted into the LWC Athletic Hall of Fame were: former soccer players Natasha Hale of the Class of 2002 and Nora Ohrnberg '03, and former tennis player Nicolas Cabrini '04. Hale and Ohrnberg are the first former female soccer players to be inducted into the hall of fame, and Cabrini is the first tennis player to be enshrined.

Also on Saturday, the LWC National Alumni Association honored two alumni and three longtime friends of the college.

The two alumni:
  • Michael Kearns '63 of Hatboro, PA, received the Distinguished Alumnus Award
  • and Chris Innes '05 of Los Angeles received the Outstanding Young Alumnus Award.
The three longtime friends:
    Retired educator Judith Ford of Louisville, KY, was named an honorary alumna
  • LWC Professor of Music Robert Reynolds, who has been a member of the LWC faculty since 1980, was named an honorary alumnus
  • and LWC Assistant Food Service Director and Catering Director JoAnn Panko received the Distinguished Service Award for more than two decades of service to LWC
On Friday night, two of LWC's distinguished academic organizations held special ceremonies.

College's nursing program recognized 32 students

The college's nursing program recognized 32 students at its annual blessing and white coat ceremony. The ceremony prepared the students - sophomores who are in their first year of LWC's bachelor of science nursing program - to symbolically enter their profession.

Lindsey Wilson Singers hold annual Standards of Excellence Ceremony

Later in the evening, the Lindsey Wilson Singers held their annual "Standards of Excellence Ceremony" in W.W. Slider Humanities Center Recital Hall. The hourlong ceremony included scripture readings, reflections on the year's theme, prayers and singing. Each member of of the choral ensemble signed their name to the group's Standards of Excellence, pledging to maintain the group's high level of performance, academic excellence and live a life of integrity.

In addition to performing at the college's major events, the Lindsey Wilson Singers also give several public concerts during the school year and take a spring tour to a U.S. region where they perform at churches and become involved in community service.

Homecoming King and Queen crowned at halftime of football game

During halftime of the LWC-Bluefield (VA) College football game on Saturday afternoon at Blue Raider Stadium, the 2015 homecoming king and queen were crowned by LWC Vice President of Student Services and Enrollment Management Dean Adams. Based on a popular vote of the student body, Brianna Bertram of Columbia, who represented the senior class, was crowned queen and Tylor Pinkard of Vine Grove, KY, who represented the Student Activities Board, was crowned king.

32 LWC nursing students present white coats
