Sherry Lynn Rice Cogar, 70, Summer Shade, KY (1945-2015)

She was a Christian, seamstress and housewife.She was a native of Akron, Ohio, and a resident of Summer Shade, KY, at the time of her death. She was the daugher of Emma Masters Rice, who survives, and the late Nathan Rice. Her husband of 52 years, Velmar Lee Cogar, survives. She leaves nine direct living descendants.

Sherry Lynn Rice Cogar, age 70, of Summer Shade, KY, died Saturday, August 29, 2015, at T J Samson Hospital, Glasgow, KY.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at 1pmCT at the McMurtrey Funeral Home, 2232 Summer Shade Road, Summer Shade, KY. Burial will follow in the Union # 2 Cemetery. Visitation will be 2pm-8pmCT, Monday, August 31, 2015 and continue on Tuesday after 7amCT, until time of services.


Sherry Lynn Rice Cogar, 70, Summer Shade, KY (1945-2015)


Born Monday, April 30, 1945 in Akron, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Nathan and Emma Masters Rice. She died Saturday, August 29, 2015, in Glasgow, Barren County, KY, at the age of 70 years, three months, and 30 days.

She was the wife of Velmar Lee Cogar, who survives. They were married for 52 years.

She was a Christian, seamstress and housewife.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include:
  • One daughter: Donna (Jimmy) Mosby, Burkesville, KY

  • Two sons: Daniel (Carrie) Cogar, Scottsville, KY; and Jessie (Karina) Cogar, Salt Lake City, Utah

  • One sister: Molly Schumate, Ohio

  • One brother: Joe Rice, Cincinnati, Ohio

  • Five grandchildren: Elijah Cogar, Anika Mosby, Katelyn Huntsman, Rayleigh Huntsman and Gracie Hayes

  • One great grandchild: Aspen Cogar.
She was preceded in death by one son, Jason Cogar and four sisters Dora, Pauline, Pat, and Margie.
