LWC wrestling adds 21 grapplers to 2015-16 roster

By David Gerhart

The Lindsey Wilson wrestling program added 21 student-athletes for the upcoming season as head coach Corey Ruff announced his 2015-16 recruiting class on Wednesday.

Ruff brings in 21 new wrestlers to the program, composed of three transfer student-athletes and 18 freshmen.

The transfers include NCAA D1 transfer, Cam Tessari, along with two NJCAA student-athletes in Diorian Coleman and Matthew Walker.

"All three transfer students are supreme talents that will have the opportunity to make a huge impact for this team," Ruff said. "Our staff is really excited to see them start off doing all the right things in the classroom and on the mat."

Cam Tessari - Ohio State University

Tessari comes to Lindsey Wilson after spending two seasons at The Ohio State University, where he was an All-American at 149 pounds after finishing fourth at the NCAA D1 National Championships in 2012. Tessari was also a four-time Ohio state champion at Monroeville High School where he was the No. 1-ranked wrestler in the nation. He concluded his high school career with a 189-6 record, including a 52-1 mark his senior season. Tessari was also a 2009 Junior Nationals Champion and helped Monroeville to the state team title as a junior.

"Cam's wrestling ability is amazing. He has a great feel for things and is comfortable in any situation," Ruff said. "He's already proven a great deal to me and I can't wait for him to not only take advantage of this opportunity, but to see him meet his own expectations."

Diorian Coleman - McKendree University (Ill.)

Coleman transfers to Lindsey Wilson from McKendree University in Lebanon, Ill., after redshirting last season. Prior to McKendree, Coleman attended Northwest College (Wyo.) where he won the 2014 NJCAA National Championship at the 165-pound weight class. Coleman was a two-time Arizona state champion for Mesa High School.

"Diorian is such a great person to be around. He is dominating preseason workouts and determined to be diligent in his academics," Ruff said.

Matthew Walker - Iowa Western CC

Walker is coming to Lindsey Wilson after finishing third at the 2015 NJCAA National Championships for Iowa Western, where he pinned four opponents and captured the third-place match with a 21-8 major decision. Walker previously wrestled for Hilliard Darby High School where he finished fifth at the Ohio state championships as a senior in 2013.

"Walker is dangerous from every position and he has such poise with how he goes about his business. He's a pleasure to be around and is a great fit for our program," Ruff said.

Joining the three transfers will be 18 freshmen that Ruff expects to help make the entire team stronger as a whole.

"We added quality depth to every weight class with this large class," Ruff said. "This group ensures that the wrestling room will remain very competitive for a long time to come."

After being injured his junior season, Burroughs finished third at the Kentucky state championships as a senior, to go along with his sixth-place finish his sophomore season.
