Lindsey Wilson Volleyball splits on final day of Bethel Invitational

Bethel Invitational on Saturday afternoon 22 Aug 2015 as they face host Bethel and Doane (NE). LWC defeats host Bethel Pilots before hometown crowd of 150, but drops match against Doane (NE) Tigers with 90 in attendance, at Gates Gymnasium, Gymnasium. With the loss, Lindsey Wilson drops their first match in 29 regular season matches, which is the longest streak in program history.

Mishawaka, IN (Sat 22 Aug 2015) - The Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders (3-1) swept the Bethel (IN) Pilots to start the day. Lindsey Wilson dropped their first match of the season after battling back from a two-set deficit against the Doane (NE) Tigers to ultimately fall, 3-2.



In the first match of the day against Bethel, Carol Siqueira led the team with 13 kills and chipped in with eight digs, while Ragni Knudsen finished the match with 11 kills. Alexa Just led the Blue Raiders with 16 digs.

The Lindsey Wilson offense was clicking in the first set as they posted a .467 hitting percentage and took early control of the match with a 7-2 lead after a kill from Grace Blomstedt. The Blue Raiders scored the last eight points in the first set to take win, 25-11.

The volleyball team did not let off the gas in the second set as they posted a .429 hitting percentage en route to 25-10 win. The Blue Raiders finished off the sweep of the Pilots with a 25-15 win in the third set. The Lindsey Wilson defense held Bethel to a .012 attacking percentage in the match.

Lindsey Wilson vs. Doane (NE)

In the second match of the day of the for the Blue Raiders, three players posted double figures kills with Siqueira leading the way with 25 kills in the match. Makenzie Montano had 54 assists in the match while posting 12 kills.

In the first set against Doane, Lindsey Wilson pulled out to an early 5-0 lead, but the Tigers rebounded with six straight points to take a 6-5 lead. After trailing by as many as six points in the set, the Blue Raiders battled back to take a 25-24 lead, but the Tigers grabbed the set, 27-25.

Doane continued to hold the momentum heading into the second set to take a 5-0 lead to start, and the Tigers never looked back as held the lead the entire set to win the set, 25-19, and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Lindsey Wilson looked to avoid the sweep heading into the third set, but Doane got off to another strong start as they took a 6-2 lead in the early going. The Blue Raiders continued to battled back, as they took their first lead of the set at 25-24. The back-and-forth affair continued as Lindsey Wilson grabbed the third set, 31-29.

After falling behind early in the fourth set, the Blue Raiders battled back once again to erase a four-point deficit to take an 18-10 lead. Lindsey Wilson hung on to take the fourth set 25-20 and tie the match 2-2.

In the fifth and deciding set, both teams battle back-and-forth and neither team took a lead larger than two points. The offense for both teams were efficient as Lindsey Wilson posted a .500 attacking percentage compared to Doane’s .571. The Tigers were able to sneak past the Blue Raiders to win the fifth set 15-13 and take the match 3-2.

With the loss, Lindsey Wilson drops their first match in 29 regular season matches, which is the longest streak in program history.
