Homeplace Annual Fall Heritage Festival set for September 12 The joint Adair/Taylor/Green Homeplace annual festival offers many more family activities, make-and-take arts and crafts, a woodland trail scavenger hunt, story tellers, a corn snake exhibit, horses, goats, alpacas, a petting zoo, face and nail painting, a "selfie" photo contest, workshops, food and much more. By George Kolbenschlag The 2015 Fall Heritage Festival at Homeplace on Green River, 5807 New Columbia Road, (Highway 55) between Columbia and Campbellsville, will be Saturday, September 12, 2015, from 8amCT/9amET until 3pmCT/4pmET. A much expanded children’s activities schedule and more family activities are new to the schedule this year. Included are competitive games, children’s “make and take” arts and crafts, a nature scavenger hunt along a woodland trail, story tellers, hands-on photography seminars for both adults and teen agers, and pioneer re-enactors with demonstrations of flint lock rifles, fire starting and other examples of the lives of the longhunters. Live music throughout the day will range from popular songs to Gospel and bluegrass with both vocal and instrumental performers. Two professionally trained vocalists will sing songs from Rodger’s and Hammerstein’s musicals. There will be arts and crafts vendors and demonstrations, a self-defense demonstration, family games, hay bales to climb on, a hay bale toss, hay and mule wagon rides, pony rides, and children's barrel train rides through a decorated barn. There will be a corn snake exhibit, horses, goats, alpacas, a petting zoo, face and nail painting, a "selfie" photo contest and food vendors. A sheltered area with activities for children five and under accompanied by an adult will also be available. The $5 parking fee per car includes three $1 tickets for rides and activities. Although most of the rides and activities are free, there will be a $1 charge for some and a 25 cent charge for others. The annual Homeplace Heritage Festival showcases the farm and its many benefits. Homeplace is an outdoor classroom open year around for hiking, picnics, bird watching and other outdoor activities. The farm offers many opportunities for artists and photographers. Homeplace is located at 5807 New Columbia Rd. (Highway 55) between Columbia and Campbellsville and is a joint operation of Adair, Green and Taylor counties. It depends on volunteers interested in community service. Additional information about Homeplace and the Festival as well as applications for those interested in demonstrating or selling their Kentucky made arts and crafts are available at the Homeplace Web page, www.homeplacefarmky.org.
