AC Early Childhood Council receives funding for school readiness Data shows nearly 63% of students entering Kindergarten in Aidar County in 2014 were considered Not Ready for School The Adair County Early Childhood Council will meet Monday, August 17, 2015 at 6pmCT, at the Adair County Public Library, 307 Greensburg Street, Columbia. All interested persons are invited to attend Contact council chairperson, Paula Garrison at 270-384-9752. By Debbie Cowan The Adair County Early Childhood Council (ACECC) is pleased to report receiving an $8,900 grant from the Governor's Office of Early Childhood to address early childhood needs in the Adair County community. The ACECC is comprised of community volunteers from the local school district, public library, Headstart, child care centers and other groups or individuals with an interest in early childhood issues. The council has been active in Adair County for three years and seeks to form collaborative partnerships and develop strategies that will strengthen families and promote school readiness for all children. There is much work to be done as data from the 2015 Early Childhood Profile shows that nearly 63% of all students entering Kindergarten in Adair County in August 2014 were considered "not ready" for school. According to the Governor's Office of Early Childhood, "school readiness" means each child enters school ready to engage in and benefit from early learning experiences that best promote the child's success. It is important that families, early care providers, school staff and community partners work together to provide environments and experiences that ensure that children enter school eager and excited to learn. Recognizing that it takes an entire community to ensure that all children have the opportunity to succeed in school and life, the Council has prepared a comprehensive plan that will use grant funds to provide such services as parenting classes, a Community Baby Fair, family literacy opportunities, school readiness kits for families, support for child care centers and local trainings for early childhood educators and parents. The plan will be implemented by council members and community partners. You may also find information about early childhood councils at the kidsnow.ky.gov website.
