Fatality collision victim identified as Sgt. David Gibbs, Post 15

BUFFALO, KY - The Kentucky State Police are investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred today, August 07, 2015, at 6:27amET, in Larue County. KSP Post 4 in Elizabethtown received a call from Larue County Dispatch to investigate a two-vehicle collision on KY Hwy 210, Campbellsville Road, near the Buffalo area of LaRue County.




Upon arrival, investigators discovered a Kentucky State Police 2010 Ford Crown Victoria Cruiser, which was operated by Sergeant David Gibbs (age 42) of Campbellsville, KY. Sgt. Gibbs was traveling westbound on KY Hwy 210 when he lost control of his vehicle in a sharp, rain soaked curve. The vehicle traveled into the oncoming lane, where it was struck by a 2015 white Jeep, operated by Patrick Judd (age 63) of Louisville, KY.

Patrick Judd was transported to the Harden Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

David Gibbs was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Larue County Coroner's Office.

Weather is considered a contributing factor in the collision.

Kentucky State Police were assisted at the scene by Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Buffalo Rescue and Fire, Larue County Fire Department, Hodgenville Police Department, Larue County Sheriff's Office, Larue County Fire Department, Larue County EMS, and Larue County Coroner's Office.

The investigation is continuing by the Kentucky State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.

The KSP Post 15 and local community are mourning the death of Sgt. David Gibbs a highly respected Kentucky State Policeman who died in a traffic accident early this morning on KY 210 in LaRue County, KY near the Green County line. Sgt. Gibbs was 42.
