Fatality accident occurs just S of E-town, KY on I-65 Tire blows out on NB semi-tractor and trailer; driver loses control, crosses median into SB lanes and strikes 2007 Infiniti. Driver of Infiniti pronounced dead at the scene by Hardin County Coroner. Driver of semi extricated and flown to UL Hospital where he is reported to be in stable condition. Collision is being investigated by KSP Trooper Bryan Washer Click on headline for complete story By Jeffrey Gregory, Public Affairs Officer Kentucky State Police Post 4, Elizabethtown, KY ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (1:19pmCT 4 Aug 2015) -Kentucky State Police Post 4 in Elizabethtown worked a fatality accident just South of Elizabethtown on I-65 Monday afternoon. On Tuesday, August 3, 2015 at approximately 5:42pmET, Ryan Romig (54) of Greenfield, IN, was traveling North on I-65 at the 90 mile marker in a 1996 International Semi-tractor and trailer. For unknown reasons, a tire blew on the vehicle causing Mr. Romig to lose control of the vehicle and cross the median and enter the southbound lanes. Christopher Mayer (39) of Loveland, OH, was headed south on I-65 in the same area in his 2007 Infiniti passenger car. The Semi-truck and trailer operated by Mr. Romig struck the Infiniti operated by Mr. Mayer causing extensive damage to both vehicles. Mr. Mayer was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hardin Co. Coroner. Mr. Romig was mechanically extricated from the vehicle and flown to University of Louisville Hospital where he is listed in stable condition. KSP was assisted on the scene by Hardin Co. EMS, Hardin Co. Coroner's Office, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Elizabethtown Fire Dept, Central Hardin Fire Dept, Glendale Fire Dept, and Airmethods.
