Ralph Roy Waggener: Let's not repeat proven failures He thinks it's people who make the difference. Suggests CJE Mike Stephens, Tommy Grider, and Mike Neal as ideal for just being "get the job done" types who could achieve economic development at the least cost. Suggests County is already employing Holly Grimsley - let her continue, from the CJE office, what she was doing as "ambassador." Click on headline for complete commentary By Ralph Roy Waggener Personal commentary When you try something and it fails you make modifications and try again, if this fails then at least you tried! If you try a third time and you fail, then you have to know you are doing it wrong. The Chamber of Commerce, and yes, the Economic Development Authority have been complete failures as far as locating industry here in Columbia/Adair County. Yes, we have spent over a half million dollars. Yes, we have hired people to head up the recruiting of industry, and yes, we have failed in all attempts. Why would we repeat three time failures? The new EDA board looks like it is making good moves, but why would we hire another warm body as we have before, and failed? CJE Mike Stephens would be one of the three people I would get to help get industry to locate here; the others are Tommy Grider and Mike Neal, because they have the talent and know how needed to do this job. We also have a Vice CJE who could provide all the need we have, and she's is already on the county payroll and was hired, before taking the Deputy CJE job, to exactly what someone the present board wants someone to do. When you try and fail, you try something else; not the same failed ways of the past. Ask, "What does it take to make it work; ask not what won't work". Meaning no disrespect to any of the members of any of these groups, the C of C does a good job, but they are not industry type people, and there is a difference in people in what their capabilities are in different vocations. Do best what you know how to do, and leave people to the best at what they are best doing! So thinks Ralph Roy Waggener as always out of order This story was posted on 2015-07-26 13:03:40
