Those Lindsey Wilson Sidewalks now a few days away A Whatever Happened to??? Update on Lindsey Wilson sidewalks Next previous story: Red Letter day! Grant will bring Sidewalks, Crosswalks for LWC Story - ColumbiaMagazine.com (c) Columbia is one step closer to start to be the Walkable City is should be. Slightly over nine months ago, Governor Steve Beshear announced a Federal Transportation Alternatives Program for Sidewalks from the the main campus to the Jamestown Street and the Lindsey Wilson Sports Park, and to place crosswalks on streets surrounding the campus. Yesterday, Mike Newton, Director of Plant Operations, was asked Whatever Happened to the Project. His answer was that pre-construction conferences are now being held, that the work could begin anytime now. He said that the sidewalks will start at the Holloway Wellness Center at Williams & Young Street, continue to Young Street, to Lowes Lane, and then offer two alternate routes. One route will continue to the intersection at Lowe's Lane and Jamestown Street, with crosswalk at Lowe's Lane to the west side of Jamestown Street. The second route will leave Lowe's Lane with a crossing to College Park, continue to Wright Drive, continue along Wright Drive to Russell Road, with a crossing at the Dollar General Store, continue down Russell Road to Hughes Street, then to Hanley Lane, for a pedestrian entrance to the LWC Sports Park at that point.
