Rollin Knifley: Square needs more than covered walkways

"The Square needs more than covered walkways and accent lighting. It needs a vision. A purpose. A plan. Until then, not too many folks will be willing to take the financial risks of doing business there." - ROLLIN KNIFLEY

Access and comfort? What? Some would like to have access to a comfortable movie theater.

How about the owners of some of the rundown buildings on the Square invest in remodeling and offer those buildings for rent at reasonable rates to encourage economic growth in downtown Columbia.

Here is an idea Mr. Arnold, if the Appeal of the Mayor's race works out in your favor, you can introduce and sponsor a Columbia Public Squard Rennovation Ordinance that requires the owners of vacant poroperties on the Public Square to update, then open for business or offer those properties for rent to businesses.

Perhaps some type of city tax incentive for the property/business owner for those doing business on the Square?

The Square needs more than covered walkways and accent lighting. It needs a vision. A purpose. A plan.

Until then, not too many folks will be willing to take the financial risks of doing business there. Not even you, Ben. --Rollin Knifley
