Two more weeks construction time added to 55/206 intersection Intersection of KY 55X and KY 206 in Adair County to remained closed for approximately two additional weeks. Project additions and weather delaying completion Click on headline for complete story By Amber Hale, Public Affairs Officer KY Transportation Cabinet, District 8, Somerset, KY SOMERSET, KY (6 Jul 2015) - While work is progressing at the intersection of KY 55X and KY 206 in Adair County, additions to the project, along with recent weather, will delay the completion and reopening of the intersection for approximately two weeks. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 8 temporarily closed the intersection on May 27 for culvert pipe replacement beneath both routes (KY 55X and KY 206). The work was expected to be completed within six weeks. However, KYTC is now undergoing the task of adding turn lanes within the intersection. The addition consists of adding a left turn lane from southbound KY 55X onto KY 206 eastbound and building a right turn from KY 206 westbound onto KY 55X north. These changes, along with recent weather, will call for the intersection to remain closed past the initial six weeks. "District 8 would like to thank the public for their patience during the closure of the highly traveled intersection. The repairs and additional turning lanes will certainly be beneficial to the traveling public," said Chief District Engineer Bruce Neely of the Department of Highway District 8. "The Cabinet extends its appreciation to current and former local officials, adjoining property owners, the local gas, water, and sewer departments and private utilities such as Windstream, who have all cooperated and shown support for the project. The KYTC Adair County crew as well as other district support crews will continue to work around adverse weather to complete the project as timely as possible." We would like to remind everyone that sidewalks continue to be closed through this area also and signed detour routes remain posted. Duration of work may be adjusted for inclement weather or other unforeseeable delays.
