Another honor for Kelsi Walker By Sue Buley, Proud Nanny Kelsi Walker has been honored with meeting Army Chaplain Major Ron Eastes on 6/15/15. He had received a copy of Kelsi's letter that she wrote awhile back and was moved that this young girl tried to get a letter to the "Army" to let them know how much she loves them and appreciates them for what they do for our country. She told them in her letter that she was praying for them. (This story was in an article that was posted earlier this spring when Kelsi was invited to read her letter to a group of veterans in Russell County during a fundraiser event. Note: see Kelsi Anne Walker wows the crowd at HonorGuard Fundraiser). Major Eastes took time out of his busy schedule to meet her and talk with her personally and let her meet his family. He and his wife thanked Kelsi for the letter that she wrote and thanked her for praying for them. He had a gift and a letter for her as a token of his appreciation. He then let her put on his uniform coat (which was an honor in itself). Major Eastes patiently explained what many of the badges and medals meant on the coat. Needless to say, Kelsi was in awe! When he was explaining some of the things he had done, for example, jumping out of an airplane, serving in Iraq, etc., Kelsi responded in the way only a nine year old could by blurting out: "So...you're a thrill seeker!" Needless to say, that gave Major Eastes quite a laugh. Major Eastes and his family were so welcoming in what was obviously a very busy time for them. They were just passing through Columbia from North Carolina. They never hurried Kelsi and gave her ample time for questions and pictures. Kelsi told Major Eastes that the reason she wrote the letter was because her teachers at school were explaining what Veterans' Day really meant. She said that's where she got the idea that she wanted to write and thank them for protecting our country. Thank you Gerald and Tina Hadley for arranging this meeting and giving Kelsi another great experience and memory! Kelsi is a student at Adair County Elementary School and the daughter of John and Brooke Walker. This story was posted on 2015-06-17 09:13:25
