James Murrell Hurt, 92, Metcalfe Co., KY (d 23 May 2015)

He was born into a rock solid Metcalfe County family, the son of the late Cornelius & Bertha Humes Hurt. He was a man of steadfast dependability and diligence. He worked at one job for 49 years, never missing work except for illness. He and his wife Blanche were married a remarkable 61 years until his death Saturday. He leaves one descendant, a daughter, Shelby Jean Neel.

James Murrell Hurt age 82 of Louisville passed away Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Baptist Hospital in Louisville, KY.

Funeral services will be held 1pmCT, Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at Butler Funeral Home, 201 East Street, Edmonton, KY, with burial in the Metcalfe County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 3pm-8pmCT, Tuesday, May 26, 2015, and after 9amCT, Wednesday at the funeral Home.

He was born in Metcalfe County, KY, the son of the late Cornelius and Bertha Humes Hurt.

James married Blanche Jeffries June 12, 1954 and they had been married 61 years at the time of his death.

He went to work at Gamble Brothers at age 18 and worked there for 49 years as a planer operator, never missing a day except for illness. Later in years he became a woodworker inspector and remained at that position until his retirement in 1999. Along with his wife, he is survived by the following:
  • A daughter: Shelby Jean Neel and husband James Lukas of Elizabethtown, KY
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers; Bobby, Orval and Eugene Hurt; and two sisters Elsie and Bessie Hurt.
