LWC wins 4th straight MSC President's Cup By Charles Balcom, Lindsey Wilson College COLUMBIA, KY - Lindsey Wilson has captured its fourth consecutive Mid-South Conference Presidents Cup, conference officials announced on Monday, 18 May 2015. The Blue Raiders scored 116.5 out of a possible 120 points during the 2014-15 academic year in the all-sports competition. Campbellsville (KY) finished second with 108.5 points followed by Cumberlands (KY) with 104.5 points and Pikeville (KY) with 92 points. Georgetown (KY) finished fifth with 86 points while Cumberland (TN) and St. Catharine (KY) tied for sixth with 80.5 points. Shawnee State (Ohio) posted 76 points to finish eighth while Life (GA) ended in ninth with 29. "It has been another outstanding year, both on and off the field of play," Lindsey Wilson athletics director Willis Pooler said. "Capturing the President's Cup for a fourth straight year, in one of the best conferences in the NAIA, is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of our student-athletes and coaches. "Our success has as much to do with the exceptional collaboration of our administration and faculty and staff than any play drawn up on a chalkboard," Pooler said. "Our student-athletes and coaches recognize the continual support they receive from our campus family and they take that support into the arena and continue to perform at the highest level. Thank you to everyone who had a hand in helping us win the 2014-15 Mid-South Conference President's Cup." Points are awarded based on the final regular season standings for each conference-sanctioned sport. The regular season champion in each sport receives 10 points with second place receiving nine points, etc. At the conclusion of the academic year, the top six male and top six female team finishes for each institution generates the institution's overall total. Lindsey Wilson scored the maximum number of points in eight sports after winning the regular season titles in football, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's tennis, men's track & field, volleyball and wrestling. The Blue Raiders shared the regular season title in men's golf to earn 9.5 points. The Blue Raiders also posted five second-place finishes, but only counted three once they reached the 12 counting sports. The second-place finishes include women's basketball, softball, men's and women's swimming and women's track & field. This story was posted on 2015-05-19 01:17:11
