Thanks, KIM SALLEE Director By Ed Waggener Adair County Judge Mike Stephens had good words for the Green River Animal Shelter (GRAS) when he delivered the report from Kim Sallee, Director of GRAS at the Tue 12 May 2015 regular session of Fiscal Court. He noted that only three animals were euthanized in April 2015, and that they were mercy deaths for three injured and or sick animals. He said the goal has been all along, to make GRAS a no-kill facility. Receipts for the month were $2,660 dollars, which included $725 in donations. Adoptions brought in $1,625, and reclaims, for dogs picked up by animal control's Jimmy Harmon, totaled $90.00. Twenty dogs were picked up by Harmon. Surrenders were 23. and 15 dogs were taken in under a contract with Green County. Eleven dogs went to rescue. Magistrates Sammy Baker (District 3) and Daryl Flatt (District 2) have been the court's liason to the shelter and are given credit, along with Judge Stephens, for the dramatic turnaround at the shelter.
