Dale Hollow Spring Cleanup nets 400+ bags of trash By: Tammie Wilson BURKESVILLE, KY -- Nearly 100 volunteers turned out to pick up roadside litter during the fifth annual Dale Hollow Spring Cleanup on Saturday, April 25. Ninety-nine volunteers filled 432 trash bags with litter that they had collected along the roads leading to Dale Hollow Lake. All volunteers received a free lunch, and several won door prizes. Sulphur Creek Resort and Hendricks Resort had donated free, one-day pontoon rentals as door prizes, and those were won by Robin Burns and Taylor Bagwele. Katie Duval won two tickets to a University of Kentucky football game, which were donated by PRIDE. Other door prize donors were Dale Hollow State Resort Park, Brown Supply, Burkesville Medical Supply, Don Franklin Auto, Keith's Barber Shop, Burkesville Baptist Church, Citizen's Bank of Cumberland County, First & Farmers National Bank, Barney's Fun Center, Reed Brothers Insurance and TOUR SEKY. Monetary donations were made by Citizen's Bank of Cumberland County, First & Farmers National Bank and Mark Brewington. Kingsford Charcoal donated charcoal for the cookout. The organizations that sponsored the Dale Hollow Spring Cleanup the Cumberland County Fiscal Court, Clinton County Fiscal Court, Dale Hollow State Resort Park, Hendricks Creek Resort, Sulphur Creek Resort and PRIDE. "Thank you and congratulations to all of our PRIDE volunteers, business and individual sponsors, and Solid Waste staff who helped make this year's event another successful one," said Cumberland County Judge-Executive John A. Phelps, Jr. "This year begins my fifth season and my second term as Cumberland County Judge Executive, and I continue to be amazed at the number of volunteers we had to come forward to work with the Pride Staff for our fifth annual Dale Hollow Cleanup," Phelps said. "We have a beautiful community and we need to continue to keep it clean," Phelps added. "I encourage everyone to do their part to keep the roads clean now," echoed Tammie Wilson, PRIDE President/CEO. "Please keep trash inside your car and put it in the garbage can when you get home. If you see litter, please pick it up before another litter bug uses it as a target." The Dale Hollow Spring Cleanup is part of the PRIDE Spring Cleanup campaign across 42 counties of southern and eastern Kentucky.
