Walter S. (Tom) Blankenship, Adair Co., KY (1935-2015)

He was the patriarch of a highly regarded Adair County, KY, family. He was a native of Marion County, KY, and a resident of Adair County, KY, at the time of his death. He was the son of the late William Andrew and Minta Mae Shofner Blankenship. His wife of almost 59 years, Rebecca Gore Blankenship, survives. He leaves 11 direct living descendants. He was a retired mechanic.

"Tom" Blankenship, Sr., 80, of Columbia, died Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 7:30amCT, at the Westlake Regional Hospital Emergency Room, Columbia, KY Funeral service will be Sunday, May 3, 2015 at 1:30pmCT, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Rev. Gene Conover officiating. Burial will be in in Cane Valley Cemetery, 83 Cane Valley Cemetery Road, Cane Valley, KY. Visitation will be after 4pmCT, Saturday, May 2, 2015, at the funeral home.

He was born Thursday, February 2, 1935, in Marion Co., KY. He was the son of the late William Andrew and Minta Mae Shofner Blankenship. He died Thursday, April 30, 2015, in Columbia, Adair County, KY, at the age of 80 years, 2 months, and 28 days.

He was a was a retired mechanic.

Survivors include:
  • His wife of soon to be 59 years: Rebecca Gore Blankenship of Columbia, KY

  • One son: Walter (Jackie) Blankenship, Jr., of Oak Island, NC

  • Three daughters: Martha Blankenship of Columbia, KY; Robin (Keith) Gibson of Myrtle Beach, SC; and Charlotte (John) Chandler of Columbia, KY

  • Two brothers: Eugene Blankenship of Louisville, Arnold Blankenship of Savannah, TN

  • Five grandchildren

  • and two great-grandchildren
