2015-16 ACMS Site Based Council Parent Member Nominations

Nominations will be taken until Monday, May 4, at 3:00 p.m. Elections will take place on Friday, May 8, 2015, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at ACMS, located at 322 General John Adair Drive.

From: Alma I. Rich, Adair County Middle School Principal

As you are probably aware most schools have a Site Based Decision Making Council that consists of members of the school community. The role of the council is to help in making decision in many aspects of the school. The SBDM council is made up of two parents, three teachers, and a principal.

Each year the council elects new members for both teacher and parent members. We are asking for your help in nominating parents to serve a one year term on the ACMS SBDM Council.

Parent members include biological parents, stepparents, foster parents, or persons who have court ordered legal custody. Parents who are nominated or who wish to vote must have a child "pre-registered to attend" the school for the next year according to law KRS 160.345.1C. Parent council members cannot be employed in or related to someone who is employed in the school or in the district administrative offices. This means that a parent who is a "father, mother, brother, sister, husband, wife, son, daughter, aunt, uncle, son-in-law or daughter-in-law" of someone who works at the school or in the district administrative offices could not be a parent council member. Parent members cannot be a board member or a board members' spouse, nor can they have a business interest in the school according to KRS 160.180 and KRS 160.380.

Parents of any 6th, 7th, or 8th grade student at ACMS for the 2015-16 school year may nominate and vote in the parent elections. Parents of current ACMS 8th grade students may be nominated and vote in the ACHS elections.

Nominations will be taken until Monday, May 4, at 3:00 p.m. Elections will take place on Friday, May 8, 2015, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at ACMS, located at 322 General John Adair Drive.
