Sen. Max Wise appointed to Southern Legislative Committee Senate President Robert Stivers makes appointment to committee which focuses on educational systems among 15 member state Southern Legislative Conference (SLC) By Nathan Jones, Legislative Research Committee Office of the Senate Majority FRANKFORT, KY (APRIL 10, 2015)- Senate President Robert Stivers (R-Manchester) recently appointed State Senator Max Wise (R-Campbellsville) to the Education Committee of the Southern Legislative Conference (SLC). The SLC fosters and encourages intergovernmental cooperation among its 15-member states. The Education Committee focuses on educational systems at all levels and investigates ways in which states are ensuring that Southern students receive the best possible education. Recent issues examined by the Committee include student achievement, workforce development, college and career-readiness, educational technology, and implications of neuroscience on education policy. "I appreciate this appointment and look forward to the opportunity to work on positive, dynamic education policy for our students and educational professionals," said Sen. Wise. Other issues in which the Committee has long-standing interest include early childhood education; reinventing high schools; school accountability; educational assessment; recruiting, training and retaining teachers; and school safety. The Committee also has addressed ways states can slow the increase in administrative spending for education programs without sacrificing quality. Founded in 1947, the SLC is the largest of the four regional legislative groups operating under The Council of State Governments, a nonpartisan organization founded in 1933 to promote excellence in state government and multi-state problem solving through the exchange of ideas and policy information. Note: Senator Max Wise (R-Campbellsville) represents the 16th District which encompasses Adair, Clinton, Cumberland, McCreary, Russell, Taylor, and Wayne Counties. Senator Wise serves as Chair of the Senate Enrollment Committee; Vice Chair of Education Committee; and a member of Appropriations and Revenue Committee;; Economic Development, Tourism and Labor Committee; Health and Welfare Committee; and Veterans, Military Affairs, and Public Protection Committee. He also serves as chair of the Budget Review Subcommittee on Transportation and member of Budget Review Subcommittee on Education, NR, and EP. This story was posted on 2015-04-10 10:23:02
