Father held in gunshot wounding of son following argument

Incident takes place at Jamestown, Russell Co., KY. Victim transported to UK Medical Center; father in Russell County Detention Center

JAMESTOWN, KY - 52-year-old Mitchell Ballenger has been arrested and charged with Assault 1st Degree. Post 15 was contacted by the Russell County Dispatch at approximately 4:02amCT in reference to a shooting at W Cumberland Avenue in Jamestown, KY.



Upon arrival, it was discovered that 27-year-old Damon Ballenger had arrived at his father's, Mitchell Ballenger, residence and an argument ensued. The argument escalated and Mitchell Ballenger retrieved a shotgun from the residence. The altercation became physical and the shotgun discharged, shooting Damon Ballenger in the leg.

Damon Ballenger was transported to University of Kentucky Hospital by air ambulance for serious injuries. Mitchell Ballenger was lodged in the Russell County Detention Center. Detective Mike Dubree is investigating.
