Traffic Advisory - Heavy I-65 Volume expected to be heavier Near Elizabethtown, KY area. Spring break in many public schools contributes to the volume By Chris Jessie, Public Information Officer Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, District 4, Elizabethtown, KY Motorists should prepare for extremely heavy southbound volumes when traveling Interstate 65 this weekend. In recent years, slow conditions were reported on Friday going into the week when many public schools are on Spring Break. Delays were not the result of incidents. Volumes were simply heavier than two lanes could accommodate. Conditions between Elizabethtown and Horse Cave were stop-and-go. Friday afternoon seemed to be the height of volume, but heavier than usual traffic continued through the weekend and Spring Break week. While northbound traffic was also noticeably heavier the weekend coming out of Spring Break, it was less concentrated than southbound traffic the weekend going in. This year, we ask motorists to plan for similar conditions. Weather will also be a factor. Heavy rain is in the forecast for Friday and Friday evening which will reduce visibility and stopping distance. With regard to construction between Mile Points 83 and 58, no lane closures are planned through the Spring Break period. Work will not impact traffic. Motorists are asked to be patient and pay close attention to signage through the construction zone. Be aware of nearby vehicles and always allow space to react to unexpected conditions. - Chris Jessie This story was posted on 2015-04-03 03:59:55
