Traffic Advisory: Changes today on KY 224 and I-65, Hardin Co.

By Chris Jessie, Public Information Officer, KTC District 4 - Elizabethtown

Motorists traveling across Interstate 65 via KY 224 may experience short delays for the next few months as bridge construction continues. A signal will be activated this afternoon to allow alternating one-way traffic over the interstate. Demolition work on the existing KY 224 bridge will allow for completion of a new bridge in order to accommodate widening I65 to six lanes. The signal is expected to remain active until early June.

Beginning at midnight, demolition will require closure of northbound I65 lanes beneath the existing structure. Traffic will be routed off of I65 at Exit 76 (Upton), across KY 224 and back onto the interstate via the northbound on ramp. Northbound delays are possible. Lanes beneath the bridge will reopen by 7am Central/8am Eastern Wednesday morning.

Wednesday night, the remainder of the existing structure will be demolished, requiring closure of southbound I65 lanes. Just as with Tuesday night's traffic plan, southbound motorists will be routed off of the interstate at Exit 76 (Upton), across KY 224 and back onto the interstate via the southbound on ramp. Southbound delays are possible. Lanes beneath the bridge will reopen by 7am Central/8am Eastern Thursday morning.
